No. Healthcare sharing is not health insurance. Although healthcare sharing does fulfill our members’ need to fund their costs for healthcare, it is not the same as insurance. America’s HealthShare facilitates the voluntary sharing of money among its members to pay for eligible medical expenses. While this means there is no guarantee there will be funds available if a medical event arises, so far every medical need that meets the Sharing Guidelines has been shared by our Members.
Members of America’s HealthShare qualify for the health coverage exemption of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and are not subject to any fine for not having health insurance. This is because America’s HealthShare is a tax-exempt organization whose Members share a common set of ethical beliefs and share medical expenses according to those beliefs.
